HOW TO DEVELOP A LEADERSHIP VISION FOR A BUSINESS.
Management and employees of a business should be actively involved when the vision of the business is being developed. The purpose for this is that a business will gain greater insight and ideas on how goals and objectives will be met by listening to all members of the business’ inputs. Make sure that you begin with this understanding in mind. How far your leadership can take your company is totally dependent on what and how far you can see. Vision is based on the three critical pillars described below.
1. Understand your people and their key traits.
For any company the employees are the single biggest asset. Any company is only as good as its employees, so try to understand what drives your people, what their values are, and what the culture of your company is.
2. Understand the dynamics of your business.
Every business has distinct characteristics. It is important to focus on the key characteristics of your business. Think about the fixed characteristics and how those characteristics will keep evolving over time.
3. Understand the environment.
Every business thrives in a very dynamic environment, which has deep impacts on the business, so it is important to be aware of the environment in which your business operates. You must keep a track of how changes in the environment are going to impact your business.
- Formulate your leadership vision basis above 3 pillars.Take into consideration the 3 pillars of vision to formulate your leadership vision and work with them. Once your leadership vision is formulated you need to compliment it.
- It is extremely important to communicate your vision to every single person who is involved in any of the aspect of your business.
- Promote and demonstrate integrity.Vision is worthless without integrity, so ensure that you demonstrate and promote integrity.
- Planning.Failing to plan is planning to fail. So make sure you outline a detailed plan to accomplish your vision and then track the plan closely. Keep modifying and improving your plan as you move along.
- Persuasion.Things may not happen on their own, so be ready for persuasion! Be prepared to persuade others as required by the vision of your company.
- Team Work.Nothing can be achieved in a vacuum. Your company needs to work as a team to achieve the desired vision.
- Adaptability.Business is very dynamic. Things change at a fast pace. What might be the trend of this season may just fade out in the next. So make sure your business, your people and your processes are adaptable and guided well by the vision in order to achieve it.
